Sometimes the outfit really does make it.

Last weekend the kids did a great job helping us get ready to have friends over. The place had been a bomb-zone and it recovered nicely.

Once they got their spot cleaned up, we brought the art easel from the freezing cold basement up to the dining room. You can see the Doctordad spreading out the dropcloth (an old tablecloth) and Erin getting the easel moved into place. Leah: well, apparently it was important to put on her artist’s hat (doubles as a baker’s hat).

and yes, those are the free to me jeans we got last fall sometime with a hole in the knee, stitched up with patches and looking quite stylish. Although I’ll admit: holes are back in so I probably could have gone without all that trouble.

The past month has been totally crazy. Some of you might have picked up on that from my lack of postings. I made a decision this week to try to make the before school time a very one on one time with my little kid. She has about an hour after big kid leaves with either me or Doctordad. On this particular day we read a little. We ate breakfast together and then I played a game of Bingo with her. By this time it was about 30 minutes to go and I wasn’t yet dressed. So I told her I had to go up and get dressed for the day and then we’d leave. She told me she still wanted to play Bingo. Ok, we could clean it up when I got done.

Apparently she’s ready for one of those church-hall bingo games where you get multiple cards. We played bingo at the swim and tennis club when I was in grade school. I could see the little kid liking that quite a bit.

It is Valentine season…..

February 11, 2011 3 comments

My memory from childhood: small box of Valentines. I sign my name on the back. Occasionally I had more kids in my class than I had in the box and my mom would find some random one in the big chest she kept holiday stuff in.

I think things are different now and things are certainly different for my kids than they were for me. The kids and I went to Michaels craft shop and picked up some supplies. Grandma hinted she might send some supplies as well (she did and they arrived on the day we planned to make the cards). I bet these cards cost significantly more in money to produce than the version I used as a child, but the kids LOVE doing it.

New rug in the living room to sit on, warm sweatshirts with hoods, fire in the woodstove. Really, can you think of a better way to spend a Friday afternoon?

sidenote: I think wordpress changed its photo inserting stuff. Still working out the kinks.
